Encouraging people to pursue their inner strength
Mission Brief
Its January 1945, Military intelligence receives a communication that Germany has launched an offensive campaign in eastern Belgium, northeast France, and Luxembourg; Germany is attempting to take control of the Belgium port of Antwerp in order to prevent allied forces using the port and to split the allied lines. You are a spy of the British Special Operations Executive, a specialist unit that has recruited everyday civilians with particular knowledge in order to not only spy but take part in Gorilla tactics.
Your Mission is to clear the way for allied forces, you will do this by reporting upon enemy movement and marking on your map any landmine fields.
Upon being briefed, you will have a kit inspection; we don’t want British equipment being found on you if compromised, so all non-essential kit is removed from your person, you are issued with 24 hour Ration packs, a survival tin, a piece of map and a cover story which must be destroyed prior to immobilisation.
You will complete your initial training; this will involve a height test to determine suitability of character for your mission, once you have completed this, you will be escorted across the border from the Netherlands with assistance of the Irene Brigade, into France. You must tactically navigate your way through the French countryside to check points where you will receive another piece of map, all the while you will be avoiding capture by German forces and the Gestapo. There may be new secondary missions that you will be offered to undertake, some of these may or may not be rewarded, they may be tough, but you are the SOE, it’s what you’ve trained for! Upon successful completion, you will be fed by the partisans and you will take basic shelter within the woods for the night.
Can you complete your mission?
Basic information on Field craft
-
Anything that could be seen as suspicious; electrical equipment, watches, or any navigational equipment, must be left at base.
-
We need to win the hearts and minds of the local civilians, keep a low profile, try to avoid roads as these are heavily patrolled.
-
If you open a gate, then close it, if it’s open, leave it open. We don’t want our presence recognised.
-
Do not leave litter behind; the enemy will recognise it and this may compromise your mission.
-
Stay away from animals, do not frighten them, this will cause alarm and raise suspicion on your presence.
-
Keep to footpaths, do not upset the farmers by cutting across fields, your profile will be seen from a distance and you may leave signs of passage.
-
Avoid anyone and everyone, anyone could be the enemy. If you see a person in a bright yellow vest, this would be one of our informers, you can approach them.
